Why Timberlea basements get wet
The Timberlea–Lakeside–Beechville corridor runs along the Nine Mile River and past a chain of small lakes, and the water table through the area responds quickly to significant rainfall.
Housing is predominantly 1970s through 1990s subdivision construction on till and shallow rock. Two patterns dominate the calls we get here. The first is original weeping tile that has silted closed: laid without filter fabric, as was standard practice at the time, and now full of the fine material it was never protected from. The second is water entering at the floor-wall joint during periods when the water table is up, which points at hydrostatic pressure under the slab rather than anything happening at the wall.
Newer development around Greenwood Heights and Brookside has better original drainage. The older stock along the Nine Mile Drive and St. Margarets Bay Road is where we find the foundations most in need of attention.
The proximity to Bayers Lake and the 103 corridor means access is straightforward and we cover this area on the same routing as central Halifax.
